Institutional thought, assessment and allocation in the arts and healthcare
How do institutions decide who receives support, resources or opportunities, and how do those decisions change over time?
Healthcare and the arts may seem worlds apart, yet both rely on institutions that make judgments, set priorities and allocate resources. Often perceived as stable and enduring, these institutions are also shaped by changing ideas, demands and ways of working.
Drawing on longitudinal studies spanning several decades, the speakers examine how decision-making and resource allocation have evolved in two contrasting settings: public support for visual artists in Flanders, Belgium, and the governance of Swedish healthcare. Together, the talks offer insights into how institutions balance continuity and change, and how these changes affect the individuals and organisations involved.

Additional event connected to the open lecture
19 October: Workshop 13.15-16.30. BMC, Klinikgatan 32, 15 floor: Room: Dora Jacobsohn.
How do institutions influence the way we think, make judgments and allocate resources? Drawing on participants’ real-world experiences, this interactive workshop explores how institutional influence is exerted and experienced in decision-making. Through analytical discussion, participants will reflect more critically on the institutional thinking and decision-making in which we all take part, both as subjects and decision-makers. The workshop builds on the morning lectures but can also be attended as a stand-alone event.
